Office Blues? Here's How to Spruce it Up

When you first decide to spend a lot of money on an office, you might as well make sure that it’s the kind that actually works for your business.

Depending on what you’re renting, it usually takes up a large amount of your general budget, after all, and you could do a lot to ensure that it’s the kind of place that your employees enjoy working in - and your clients enjoy visiting.

If you’re looking for ways to make your office an even better place, you’ve come to the right place. Here is a handful of ways to make it work for you so that you can get back to making the kind of money you’ve been dreaming about.

First: Make it boost both teamwork and concentration

This might sound like a fine balancing act but it’s not actually that tricky to pull off. Your team should have space to focus on their own tasks while also having opportunities for collaborating; designated areas for each is, in other words, important as well as an office layout that makes conversation possible.

Make sure that their desks are large enough to create a sense of having their own space, for example, or just put up a few potted plants in between to create an illusion of a wall. After this, it’s a good idea to look into improving their coffee area so that your team can have an outlet for all of their excellent caffeine-fueled ideas in the morning.

You don’t have to go all out by investing in the priciest machine out there, though, as long as you’ve given them a decent lounge area, a couple of notepads on the coffee table, and perhaps even a whiteboard where they can scribble down their ideas.

Another important point to this is that you may be paying too much for the office you already have. If this is the case, you should have a look at and see if you’re able to find a better area to work instead.

Next: Clutter kills productivity

After thinking about the office layout, you need to treat your office the same way you treat your home. Keep it clean and tidy so that your mind is able to relax and focus a bit more. Sure, some clutter may, in fact, make it easier to be creative but it will at the same time make it harder for your employees to focus on the task ahead of them.

Allow them to work in neat and tidy surroundings and encourage creativity through team meetings and other forms of socialisation - it is especially important if you have an open office landscape where it’s usually a bit harder to focus.

Get all those wires in order, treat the office floors, and make sure that it is reasonably quiet to accommodate for focused work. This includes ensuring that their computers and emails are in order, so remind your employees to keep their desks as well as their desktops clean - while you don’t want to parent them, it really is for their own good.

Now you have everything you need for a focused and creative office space that makes your business a bit more productive. It doesn’t have to require that much, after all, as long as you manage to find the balance between focus and collaboration.
